Routines, experiences and special events
Predictable days help new children settle, with plenty to look forward to.
Daily routines
Routines support children to feel settled and secure particularly when they first join us.
The routines in both of our rooms are similar although not the same, and routines are sometimes changed to meet the needs of the children in each room.
Our regular routine includes free play and creativity, snacks, physical activity, story time, music and songs, lunch, circle times and planned small group times for some more structured learning.
Outdoor learning
The children spend time outside each day having lots of fun. Through the week they spend time on the school playground, exploring the grassy forest school woodland area, and sometimes visiting the local park, which is a few minutes' walk from the Pre-School.
Structured learning
Once children are developmentally ready, they are offered a daily opportunity to take part in structured small group activities. These are carefully planned to build the skills needed to be ready for school.
Extra activities
Each week children can enjoy activities provided by visiting professionals, including Yoga and a Rhythm Time music session. Children can also participate in a weekly cooking activity and frequent visits to the residential home for fun and games.
Special events
There are many special events through the year, held both inside the Pre-School and out. We occasionally have visitors, including educational visits from Shaldon Zoo, a dentist or the police.
Families are welcome to join us for our termly outings and for Sports Day and Graduation.
There is a Christmas party for all the children to enjoy.
