Indoor provision
We operate from two large classrooms with lots of space for the children to freely explore. Both of our rooms have been carefully planned to meet the needs of the children, and our higher staff ratio means that there is always an adult close by. There are daily planned small groups and targeted learning opportunities, and increased focus on School readiness in our Starfish room. Both rooms provide children with a quiet area, a reading nook, sensory play, dynamic and make believe play, construction and creative play, as well as the favourites like trains and trucks.
Outdoor fun
Both our Starfish and Turtle rooms have direct access to the undercover outdoor area, whatever the weather.
The outdoor garden has a climbing bridge, mud kitchen, a stage for the children to explore, and additional activities are added each week.
We have access to the School playground and woodland each day offering extended opportunities for physical development and exploring.
We enjoy planting and spending time in the natural world learning about our world.
Bikes, scoters, balls, hoops and ribbons are available and often used in the open spaces.
There are also weekly walks to the park, library museum and other local places.
Routines and Experiences
Nappy changing and Sleeping facilities
In the Turtle room there is a large changing unit where nappies are changed, there are also potties and training seats in the toilets along with hand washing facilities.
Nappies are changed routinely mid-morning, after lunch and mid-afternoon. Additional nappy changes are facilitated at other times when required due to being wet or soiled.
Parents are asked to provide nappies and wet wipes.
Once children move into the Starfish room they will usually have started toilet training, there are potties and training seats available to use on the child sized toilets. Handwashing facilities are available to promote independent use.
Where children still need to sleep in the day arrangements will be planned prior to the child starting.
Our policy and procedures clearly set out how we offer safer sleep facilities.
In the Turtle room sleep mats are provided in a quiet space for rest and sleep.
We cannot facilitate sleep in a pushchair and where children fall asleep or arrive asleep in a pushchair they are moved to a sleep mat to complete their sleep.
In the Starfish room sofas and cushions are available for children to rest.
