Funded childcare for working parents
Since September 2025, up to 30 hours per week of funded childcare has been available for children of eligible working parents, from the start of the funding period following their ninth month birthday until they start primary school.
Applications for the working entitlement are made through HMRC. Both parents, or a lone parent, need:
- to live in England
- to be working the equivalent of 16 hours per week at the National Minimum or Living Wage
- to expect an income of less than £100,000 each per year
Universal funding for 3 and 4 year olds
All 3 and 4 year olds are eligible for the universal early years funded childcare of 15 hours per week from the start of the funding period following their third birthday.
No code is required to access the universal 3 and 4 year old funding and the Pre-School will work with you to claim this funding.
Targeted funding for 2 year olds
A 2 year old can get funded childcare if the parent or carer lives in England and receives any of the following:
- Universal Credit with a household income of £15,400 a year or less after tax, not including benefit payments
- Income Support, income-based Jobseeker's Allowance or income-related Employment and Support Allowance
- the guaranteed element of Pension Credit
A child is also eligible if they are looked after by a local council, have an education, health and care (EHC) plan, receive Disability Living Allowance, or have left care under a special guardianship, child arrangement or adoption order.
Applications can be made and eligibility checked online, or by phone on 0345 155 1013. You will need your National Insurance number, or National Asylum Support number if applicable.
If you are working, you may also be eligible under the separate working-parent scheme. If you qualify both ways, apply for both.

Common questions
What if I cannot claim benefits because of my immigration status?
You may still get funded childcare for your 2 year old. You must live in England, and your household income after tax must be no more than £26,500 (one child) or £30,600 (two or more children) outside London. You cannot have more than £16,000 in savings or investments. You will need to complete the NRPF application form and attach supporting evidence.
Are there extra charges for snacks?
No. There are no additional charges for snacks, and drinks are provided throughout the day.
Do we have to buy lunches?
You can choose between providing a packed lunch for your child or booking a hot lunch which is prepared on the school premises The cost of the hot lunch is £2.85 per day which is paid directly through parent pay. You can also choose a mixture of both packed lunch and hot lunches across the week.
