The Early Years Foundation Stage
At St Joseph's Pre-School Unit we recognise how early experiences have a major impact on their future life chances of children.
We provide daily activities and experiences to support every child to reach their full potential.
The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) standards that are at the heart of everything we do ensure that the children in our Pre-School Unit learn and develop, and that they are kept healthy and safe.
We provide teaching and learning experiences to ensure that the children develop the skills they need for ‘school readiness’ and that they access a broad range of knowledge to prepare them for future life.
There is a wide a range of activities and resources available to the children to use freely during their time with us, and these are both inside the classroom and outside.
Children can free flow between the inside and outside areas as they choose during free play time, and adults are always close by to ensure their well-being and safety.

What to expect in the EYFS - The Department for Education has published a new guide for parents – ‘What to expect in the Early Years Foundation Stage’ (formerly ‘What to expect when’) which guides parents through what to expect in their child’s development. It aligns with the new Development Matters used to support our staff in tracking children's development, please click below to view this useful document or find out more about the EYFS.
